Jotson’s Price Plan Analysis uses your electricity data to answer the question: Which is the best electricity price plan for your household — Time-of-Use (TOU), tiered, or Ultra-Low Overnight (ULO) — and how much money can switching plans save you?
Figuring that out on your own means pulling bills, decoding time-of-day price periods, and running comparisons on the Ontario Energy Board’s (OEB) calculator — work most households don’t have time for (and many aren’t even sure which plan they’re on).
There isn’t a one-size-fits-all answer because savings vary based on your unique usage: how much you use and when you use it. That’s why the Jotson Price Plan Analysis runs the numbers on your real usage and gives you clear, personalized cost-saving estimates — before you switch plans.
Price Plan Analysis: See what plan is best for you
The Jotson Price Plan Analysis tool lets you easily pick the best electricity plan for your household. It automatically analyzes your last 12 months of usage and shows:
- Your current plan and costs (TOU, tiered, or ULO).
- Side-by-side comparisons against the other two options.
- Personalized annual savings estimates (or the extra you’d pay) if you switch.
- Clear next steps to switch your plan.
The Price Plan Analysis tool does all the heavy lifting for you.
To get the same insights manually, you’d need to collect a year’s worth of your hourly energy usage data through the Green Button portal of your provider, segment it by season and TOU/ULO time blocks, and enter those kWh into the OEB calculator. You’d then have to redo it for every Nov. 1 rate change.
It’s a lot of work… which is why nearly 9 in 10 Ontario households just stay on the default TOU plan, and never look at alternatives.
How to access the Price Plan Analysis feature
The Price Plan Analysis tool is available for free via the Jotson app:

2. Access the feature either through the “HQ” tab or “Resources” tab.

3. Tap “Connect Provider” to securely connect your utility.

4. Follow the prompts to complete the connection.

How to switch plans
Switching is simple and handled through your electricity provider:
- Notify your provider by submitting a request form (you can download the form right in the Jotson app)
- Timing: Utilities must confirm within 10 business days, and the change takes effect at the start of your next billing period (or the following one, depending on when you submit).
- No lock-in: You can switch back at any time if your situation changes.
Not sure what plan you’re on? The feature shows your current plan at the top of your analysis. You can also find it on the Electricity line of your bill.
